Eclipse 2017

August 25, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I went to South Carolina to see the total eclipse of the sun on August 21, 2017. It was an amazing experience to try to photograph this event. It was not easy and I struggled with finding the sun, with my special glasses  and filter on my camera. I had to use the Live View feature on the camera because I could not look through the viewfinder. It was challenging and I didn’t think to remove the filter to capture the totality–it is very dark so I did not need the filter. As a result, I didn’t get that picture–disappointing. However, I did get some and the weather really cooperated that day, although clouds were predicted. Just before the eclipse the sky cleared out. During totality, everything went dark and the crickets started chirping, so weird. I was with very lovely people to make the day one to never forget.

Betty’s Branch

August 12, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I went to Betty’s Branch with my friend, Joyce. Betty’s Branch is literally right in her neighborhood and you must be a resident to go and partake in the beauty. There are scenic sites as well as kayaking, paddle boating, and general gorgeous sites to see. We went at dusk, just before a thunderstorm, which we just missed. We could hear thunder in the distance and got back to the car just in time before the sky opened up with pouring rain. Here are a couple of shots.

July 4th 2017

August 12, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I went to a friend’s house for the 4th of July celebration. While everyone was inside, I walked outside and took some ordinary pictures of the porch, house, and surrounding parked cars. I edited these with Lightroom, Photoshop, and Nik software to achieve some unusual results of everyday, ordinary object.

Kelly and Kinsley

July 1, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I took some studio pics of my friend, Kelly and her adorable granddaughter, who is a very precocious 4 year old. She loves to talk and enjoys having her picture taken. She is the perfect photographic subject, not just because of her “Shirley Temple” looks, but her personality as well. I took over 200 photos, and narrowed it down to about 100. Here are the ones I like very much.

Baby Boy First Birthday

June 14, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

We took some pictures of a little boy for his first birthday in the yard of my friend’s home. It was a learning experience since he wasn’t exactly sitting still. We followed him around and caught some very sweet moments with him and with his family. I enjoy taking photos of children, even though they aren’t always cooperative.

Ladies Tea 2017

May 24, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I took some pictures in West Town Community Church for a Ladies Tea in May. It was a bit challenging because of the poor lighting in the auditorium and the wide open space. I used strobe lighting and a speed light. Here are the results. It was a fun day although a little stressful.

St Simon’s

March 25, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

Here are a few more shots at St. Simon’s Island of various sunsets and sunrises. In addition, the picture out of the window was taken inside the St. Simon’s lighthouse. The picture of the staircase was also taken looking up inside the lighthouse. These steps are very steep and challenging to navigate. I had to be very careful while climbing. The images here were edited more than the previous St. Simon’s photos with software so they look a bit different. Enjoy.

Guitar and pink lilies

December 27, 2016 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I found my guitar in the closet, in the back, and felt so sad that I abandoned it years ago. Life became life and I got involved with other endeavors, such as photography. But I found another use for my poor, lonely, guitar–namely putting pink lilies on the strings and, voila, it has been brought to life again. Here are my flowers and guitar photos.

Amanda and CJ

November 22, 2016 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I went out to Brick Pond Park, in North Augusta, to shoot some pictures of Amanda and CJ. It was a warm day in early November and, although it was a bit hazy, we got some lovely shots.

St. Simon’s Island

November 11, 2016 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I went on a trip to St. Simon’s Island and stayed at a friend’s condo. Each morning I was me with the glorious sunrise right off the balcony. In the evening, the spectacular sunset was amazing. We collected shells on the beach every day. All and all it was a beautiful and restful time.
