I photographed a bouquet of soft pink lilies against a background window. I added a bluish texture to the background to highlight the window and to bring out the beauty of the lilies. I deliberately made the lilies very soft and almost transparent to create almost a dreamy quality. The image captures the intricate details of the petals and stamens.
Purple Lilies and Nectarines
I took a beautiful pink and gold vase and added some vibrant purple lilies. Beside this pretty glass vase I put a green lit candle. As a finishing touch to this elegant scene I placed three ripe nectarines into a colorful ceramic bowl. As a background I added a texture to highlight all the gorgeous elements of this arrangement.
White Chrysanthemums on Black
Two white chrysanthemums are showcased against a black background, highlighting their delicate petals and radiant appearance. The lighting accentuates the intricate details of each bloom and the contrast between the green and white petals.
Daisies and Green Apples
I was looking through my various vases to use for a still life and came upon a lovely little blue pitcher that I had forgotten about. I added white daisies and paired this with a woven brown basket filled with green apples spilling out. Next I added a beautiful round gold vase to offset the blue in the little jug. For the background, I added a soft bluish overlay texture. It has an overall peaceful and serene feel.
Pumpkins and Yellow Lilies
It is Fall and what says Fall other than orange pumpkins. I placed mini pumpkins into a martini glass, and added a green wax candle with flame. Yellow lilies in a green glass vase completed the basic composition. I then added a light blue texture for the background, which creates a warm and cozy scene.
Oranges and Lilies
I placed some mandarin oranges into a goblet. I added some gorgeous orange lilies into a blue glass vase. I placed a terracotta pot on the side for a rustic touch. I photographed this against a white backdrop and added textures to give this photo a painted look.
Golden Light on Tree Trunk
In the early morning I pass this tree on the way out of my community. On a sunny day, the sun just illuminates the tree, making it look almost two dimensional–but only in the morning. By the afternoon, it is just the one shade. I decided to capture this beautiful transformation one day, waking up early just to get the light just right. It is amazing the things you see by paying attention. This composition captures the serene beauty of a natural landscape.
Three Green Pears
I gathered three ripe pears in my studio and arranged them in a row against a black and then white backdrop. Each image has a different feel to it. Not sure which I like better. All these images were taken in studio. The colors on the second image were added as a texture. The image against the black backdrop were arranged on a shiny black table. Their vibrant green color and smooth, glossy surface give them a fresh and appetizing appearance. They look good enough to eat.
Pine Cones
Where I live, there are many pine trees. I always see the standard pine cones all over the grass and wooded areas, but I never knew what they look like before they mature. I was out walking when I noticed these interesting growths on the pine trees and I wasn’t sure what they were. They were skinny and some very long, so I did a search and found out that these interesting yellow and green cylindrical growths were indeed baby pine cones. I came back with my camera and macro lens and took many shots. The wind was whipping the tree around but I managed to get a few good images.
Since the hurricane in September in Augusta, GA, there are so many downed pine trees. These have mature pine cones–the kind I am familiar with. The second picture is a macro shot of one of these beauties.
Lilies, Apples, and Limes
I always feel that a black background adds a dramatic flair to a composition. This still life creation features a blue vase with orange lilies. Green apples sit at the base of the blue jug. I had a martini glass and added four limes to match the apples. I added a thick orange candle placed on a pewter candle holder. The orange in the candle offsets the orange in the lilies. The black background enhances the reflections.
