Three Ripe Strawberries

March 27, 2026 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I bought some beautiful ripe red strawberries to eat as a snack. However, because they were so pretty, I decided to line them up and take pictures. I decided to photograph them in my studio using strobe lighting, on a black table, against a black backdrop.

Pink Lilies and Limes

January 6, 2026 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

In creating this still life, I wanted to use beautiful contrasting colors to bring out the green of the limes, and the vase. I added the pink lilies to the glass vase, and placed the limes into the goblet one by one. I added a black and white ceramic jug along with a black chess piece. This beautiful arrangement was placed on a green and white cloth. To complete the theme, I created a bluish, green texture for the background.

Pumpkins and Yellow Lilies

It is Fall and what says Fall other than orange pumpkins. I placed mini pumpkins into a martini glass, and added a green wax candle with flame. Yellow lilies in a green glass vase completed the basic composition. I then added a light blue texture for the background, which creates a warm and cozy scene.

Pumpkin and Skulls

October 13, 2025 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I decided to create an image depicting the beautiful autumn colors of Halloween. I also decided to add some spookiness to this gorgeous scene by using some skulls. Nothing says Halloween like scary skulls. Of course I had to include a lovely little orange pumpkin. Orange lilies, and a thick orange lit candle all captured against a black backdrop depict the magic of Halloween.

Golden Light on Tree Trunk

September 15, 2025 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

In the early morning I pass this tree on the way out of my community. On a sunny day, the sun just illuminates the tree, making it look almost two dimensional–but only in the morning. By the afternoon, it is just the one shade. I decided to capture this beautiful transformation one day, waking up early just to get the light just right. It is amazing the things you see by paying attention. This composition captures the serene beauty of a natural landscape.

Green Pears and Yellow Lilies

July 14, 2025 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I had an old silver teapot that I had sitting on my credenza. I polished it and filled it with vibrant orange Peruvian lilies. I placed three green pears at the base of the teapot. I placed beautiful yellow lilies in a green glass vase. I placed a fat orange candle on a pewter decorative candle holder and I added an orange/brown texture to give the arrangement depth and warmth.

Red Apples and Orange Lilies

June 2, 2025 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I wanted to create a scene using red on red: I bought a red glass vase and I pared it with two ruby red apples. I created a staircase of candles- each one lower than the previous one. I added beautiful orange lilies to the red vase, I also placed some lovely mini yellow carnations in a small black and white ceramic vase. I added a rustic texture to the background. The scene exudes warmth and calm, complemented by the earthy tones of the setting.

I decided to do a still life using mini carnations and green pears as the theme. I put the carnations into a pear-shaped brown glass vase. I also added the carnations to a small black-and-shite ceramic vase. I added a green lit candle to a metal holder and placed two green pears beneath it. I placed all the elements on top of a wooden board. I added an orange texture as a background to bring out the beauty of this composition which have complementary colors.

All About Orange

November 25, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

This still life features mostly shades of orange with some green and yellow on the side. I found a lovely peach and cream vase. I added some gorgeous orange lilies and some mini yellow carnations to a green vase for some contrast.I added some mini orange pumpkins and a wide orange lit candle in keeping with the orange theme. I feel this arrangement speaks Autumn. A delicate blue texture was added which give this composition a soft easy and relaxing feel.

Crepe Myrtle Buds

September 4, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I came out last Sunday to go walking and I just couldn’t resist going back into the house and getting my camera which already had a macro lens. It had rained the night before, so the buds were so new and sparkling, ready to become blooms. It was a beautiful morning and the sun was just beginning to shine through the foliage. The bright natural light enhances the the vibrant color and detail of the buds.
