I had an old silver teapot on my credenza, just gathering dust. I bought it years ago in Charleston thinking it might be worth something. I still don’t know about that, but it was pretty. Before using it in my image, I first had to polish it. I always wanted to use it in a still life, but didn’t know what to do with it. Finally, I decided to add some Peruvian Lilies to the opening. I love the look of pears so I added them as well. I added a lovely ornate candle holder with an orange and yellow thick candle to offset the orange in the flowers. The background is a texture I added in. i think the darkish background brings out the beauty and drama of this arrangement.
Spoons in The Sink
I enjoy using everyday, mundane, items that nobody even thinks twice about such as utensils in the sink, and turning them into art. We sometimes miss beauty that surrounds us in different ways. Who would find beauty in a couple of spoons sitting in some soapy water in the sink. I took a little artistic liberty with this image in that I added a pinkish layer to give it a little color. I arranged these shiny spoons in a pleasing manner in the sink and added some bubbles. My goal was to show that seemingly ordinary things we see all around us can have beauty when visualized through an artist’s eye.
Hubcap and Orange Lilies
I was out doing my walking last week when I came upon a hubcap, in good condition. I decided it might make an interesting picture. I tried to use travel as a loose theme, so I added an old New Jersey license plate, yellow sunglasses, and a wrench. In keeping with the colors of the flowers, I included a green apple. I added a candle and metallic candle holder to complete the image. I felt that a black backdrop would enhance the scene.
