I had an old silver teapot on my credenza, just gathering dust. I bought it years ago in Charleston thinking it might be worth something. I still don’t know about that, but it was pretty. Before using it in my image, I first had to polish it. I always wanted to use it in a still life, but didn’t know what to do with it. Finally, I decided to add some Peruvian Lilies to the opening. I love the look of pears so I added them as well. I added a lovely ornate candle holder with an orange and yellow thick candle to offset the orange in the flowers. The background is a texture I added in. i think the darkish background brings out the beauty and drama of this arrangement.
Phinizy Swamp in Summer
The other day I went out to Phinizy Swamp, a beautiful nature preserve in Augusta, GA. I hadn’t been there in years but it didn’t disappoint, although it was very overgrown, as it is in the Summer. Once the cooler weather hits, it is much more beautiful and nuanced regarding the different colors. Things that were covered up in the Summer stand out because they are not impeded by the overgrowth. I still managed to get a few good shots showing just how lovely and peaceful it is there. If you’re a nature photographer this is the absolute best.
Bridge at Brick Pond Park
I always love how peaceful Brick Pond Park is. Last week I went there and just marveled at how serene and almost otherworldly it can be at times. There can be many views of this lovely covered bridge sitting in the middle of the lake, but I walked around and found a spot between the trees, where I could photograph it. The mirror-like reflections make the lake look like glass. This scene evokes serenity to me, which is hard to find in this strange world we live in.
Joyce Portraits and Identity Crisis 2020
I had an assignment for Chicks that Click photo group to come up with an image representing Identity Crisis. I enlisted my friend Joyce who is a wonderful model and had her pose gazing into a mirror. I did this in my studio upstairs and put the soft box with my AD200 strobe light on the left side with a grid over the box. This was done to achieve a low key effect. In editing I added both a blue texture to the mirror and then I added a shattered glass brush over it.
I like the effect–it looks like an identity crisis to me. Then Joyce wanted some portraits too. She is a great model and doesn’t require too much instruction on posing.
