I placed a green hat, on a patterned cloth, resting against a wrought iron candle holder. I added a green lit candle on the holder, and three Bosc pears on the cloth. To complete the scene I added a black chess piece. This arrangement was photographed against a black backdrop and a black table. The elements of this composition really stand out against the dark background with reflections.
Oranges, Lilies, and Blue Vase
A vibrant arrangement features orange lilies in a blue vase, accompanied by a woven basket of mandarin oranges and three lit candles. The calm composition is enhanced by the contrasting colors and soft lighting. The orange and green candles add to the calming atmosphere.
Party of Skulls
I decided to create an image with skulls being the stars. I came across an unusual gold skull and decided to add it to the other two skulls I have. To enhance the eerie quality of this composition, I added a dark orange texture. For a more dramatic effect I added several different sized lit candles. I had an old child’s hat that fit perfectly on the gold skull’s head.
Halloween
I thought it only fitting that I do a Halloween themed image. I decided to photograph this scene agains a black backdrop to give it a spooky and eerie quality. I always seem to get some flowers into many of my creations. These pink lilies add a pretty pop of color, as does the bright orange candle. The brown pewter candle holder enhances the color of the beautiful textured candle. I placed a small skull atop a green glass vase. A scorpion and mini pumpkins complete my the eerie atmosphere and my vision.
Deep Red Rose
I have always loved roses. There are so many varieties and colors of roses, but to me, the most beautiful is the red rose. I envisioned a deep red rose with water droplets on the petals. I decided that a close up of the rose would reveal the mystical beauty of this gorgeous flower. I then spritzed the flower with water droplets, which clung to the delicate petals. I chose to photograph this spectacular beauty in a dark setting, thus bringing out the red color. It is really such a rather simple photo of a flower, but the deep red against a dark background made for a rather dramatic effect and enhanced the elegance of this exquisite flower.
Becky
One thing I can say about Becky, she has a real zest for life. I advertised that I needed models and she volunteered. I’ve taken her portraits before, but this was another one. I often like to do dark, moody shots, especially of me. But I just knew that wouldn’t work for Becky. She is a happy, joyful, human being and I wanted to let her personality sparkle. I think these shots truly show the essence of her as a person. She loves to shop and there were no problems getting her to bring several cute outfits. She hardly needs any direction for posing as she is a natural. I enjoyed the afternoon with her and I hope I have captured and portrayed Becky as the happy person she is.
Musician Portraits
I did a photo shoot of a musician friend of mine, Curt. I love doing low-key photography of musicians. I went to his house and positioned my lighting so he would come out mysterious and dark. I love the guitar and took many images of him playing.
