Clematis Blue Light

April 28, 2025 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I went outside my house after it rained and noticed the beautiful droplets of water on this Clematis Blue Light flower. I grabbed my macro lens and shot this image. The violet petals surrounding the center of this flower, highlighted by droplets of water gently resting on its surface accentuate the natural beauty and complexity of this blossom. This beauty blooms each year at this time.

Deep Red Rose

January 25, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I have always loved roses. There are so many varieties and colors of roses, but to me, the most beautiful is the red rose. I envisioned a deep red rose with water droplets on the petals. I decided that a close up of the rose would reveal the mystical beauty of this gorgeous flower. I then spritzed the flower with water droplets, which clung to the delicate petals. I chose to photograph this spectacular beauty in a dark setting, thus bringing out the red color. It is really such a rather simple photo of a flower, but the deep red against a dark background made for a rather dramatic effect and enhanced the elegance of this exquisite flower.

Purple Hydrangeas and Plums

July 29, 2023 by Marilyn Botta

I came upon some beautiful purple hydrangeas and decided to incorporate them into a still life. I had a multicolored purple glass vase at home that I had picked up a few weeks before. I love the look of wicker baskets and fruit, so I added a round wicker basket filled with a few plums to my arrangement. It really started to take shape when I incorporated the elements on a brown wooden board. I felt that a green background would best bring out the composition that I was aiming for. I photographed the scene against a white background and added a green texture during editing. I think the contrasting colors and shapes make for a very pleasing image.

I decided to experiment with the elements that I had used in a prior image. However, this one would be against a black backdrop, photographed on a black table. I used the round wicker basket, and purple plums, but I substituted a clear glass purple vase and added a small gold glass. It is amazing that just by changing the elements of an image, a whole different composition will emerge. They are similar yet different. I like the reflections on the table too.

White Daisies, Orange Lilies, and Ukulele

June 2, 2023 by Marilyn Botta

These lovely creations are my latest features in my Still Life repertoire. These are three very different Still Lifes using white daisies, orange lilies, limes, oranges and a ukulele. I found all of these vases in my favorite place, Goodwill. Each image uses a different vase. The orange lilies really spoke to me and I felt they would look beautiful against a black background with a green vase. The green ceramic vase spoke to me because it comes from Costa Rica and shows turtles as a design. White daisies added to the green vase really looked exquisite. For the last image I  decided to add a ukulele to the picture with white flowers and green ceramic vase. Again, a black backdrop filled the bill. I love the varied colors and how I incorporated the contrasting  colors to realize my vision.

Mums, pears, and lemons

I decided to do some still-lifes of beautiful mums (Chrysanthemums) along with pears, and lemons and a basket. I also did some photos using a chair as well. These are gorgeous flowers that I never knew the name of.

Sunflowers

January 15, 2021 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I discovered some gorgeous sunflowers at Kroger recently. I thought they’d make some beautiful photos in the studio. I staged them on a white and then black background. On the white, I added in Photoshop, a texture. On the black background – no texture. I like how they came out. I tried several textures. I even took a self-portrait smelling the sunflower.

Train Depot in Aiken

November 3, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

The Chicks the Click Photography group arranged for a vintage Aiken train depot photo shoot. The models were beautifully dressed in vintage clothes from the early 1900s. Some of the gorgeous outfits were actually made by the talented ladies of this group. The models were incredible in their patience–that goes even for the younger children. What a fun day. Here are some of the shots.
