Orange Lilies, Ukulele, and Pears

July 9, 2023 by Marilyn Botta

I purchased some beautiful orange lilies. I decided to use them in some Still Life photos featuring a green hat, green vases, Bosc pears, and a ukulele my friend loaned me. I photographed these images against a black background so they would pop. I rather like them and I sure hope you do too.

Still Lifes with Blue Vase

May 4, 2023 by Marilyn Botta

I recently purchased a pretty blue vase at Goodwill. Someone discarded it but I picked it up and decided to use it for some studio still life photos with beautiful flowers. Someone else’s trash can become someone’s treasure. Here are four images using the blue vase, some similar, yet different. I decided to use lemons and yellow lilies in a wicker basket, some I used purple poms and oranges, in a glass beaker, as well as grapes. I used black backgrounds on some and one I added a texture.

Sunflowers by Window

December 11, 2021 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I was up visiting my family in New Jersey in November. My son had bought some beautiful sunflowers for the kitchen table to brighten up the room. I often photograph flowers in the studio setting using strobe lights. But on this day the light coming in through the window was so inviting that I decided to place the vase on the garbage can, right next to the window. These are the best of the shots that I took that day using natural window light–no flash.

Food and Flowers in Studio

April 22, 2020 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

Since we are in a lockdown due to the Pandemic, I have been coming up with creative photo ideas in my studio. What do I like most?–Food and flowers! So, I set out to make some fruit plates with cheese. I put everything on this silver plate that I got from Hobby Lobby as a prop some time ago and never used. I added a lovely lily that had bloomed in a vase at home. The resulting images are just what I had envisioned.

I also took some photos of the same lily and added different textures as backgrounds. It is amazing how a background can make the same image look different.
