Spoons in The Sink

August 24, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I enjoy using everyday, mundane, items that nobody even thinks twice about such as utensils in the sink, and turning them into art. We sometimes miss beauty that surrounds us in different ways. Who would find beauty in a couple of spoons sitting in some soapy water in the sink. I took a little artistic liberty with this image in that I added a pinkish layer to give it a little color. I arranged these shiny spoons in a pleasing manner in the sink and added some bubbles. My goal was to show that seemingly ordinary things we see all around us can have beauty when visualized through an artist’s eye.

Raindrop on Flower

July 9, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

As I was leaving to go walking on Sunday morning, I noticed raindrops on my Crepe Myrtle tree. I knew it rained Saturday night so I thought there may be some pretty droplets on the delicate flowers. I just so happened to have a camera with a macro lens upstairs luckily. So I went back in and grabbed it, came out and started shooting. It was so hot and steamy that morning that my lens was getting fogged up. But I kept wiping it off with my cloth and managed to actually see what I was photographing. The background is softly blurred in shades of pink and green which highlight the beautiful droplet on the flower.

Phinizy Swamp in Summer

June 23, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

The other day I went out to Phinizy Swamp, a beautiful nature preserve in Augusta, GA. I hadn’t been there in years but it didn’t disappoint, although it was very overgrown, as it is in the Summer. Once the cooler weather hits, it is much more beautiful and nuanced regarding the different colors. Things that were covered up in the Summer stand out because they are not impeded by the overgrowth. I still managed to get a few good shots showing just how lovely and peaceful it is there. If you’re a nature photographer this is the absolute best.

Bridge at Brick Pond Park

June 3, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I always love how peaceful Brick Pond Park is. Last week I went there and just marveled at how serene and almost otherworldly it can be at times. There can be many views of this lovely covered bridge sitting in the middle of the lake, but I walked around and found a spot between the trees, where I could photograph it. The mirror-like reflections make the lake look like glass. This scene evokes serenity to me, which is hard to find in this strange world we live in.

Deep Red Rose

January 25, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I have always loved roses. There are so many varieties and colors of roses, but to me, the most beautiful is the red rose. I envisioned a deep red rose with water droplets on the petals. I decided that a close up of the rose would reveal the mystical beauty of this gorgeous flower. I then spritzed the flower with water droplets, which clung to the delicate petals. I chose to photograph this spectacular beauty in a dark setting, thus bringing out the red color. It is really such a rather simple photo of a flower, but the deep red against a dark background made for a rather dramatic effect and enhanced the elegance of this exquisite flower.

Phinizy Swamp

January 22, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I love going to Phinizy Swamp in the late afternoon when shadows are more prominent. There is something so beautiful about how the bridges curve around under the cypress trees. The day I went there the sky was a deep blue with puffy clouds emitting sunlight giving it a heavenly feel. It is so amazing that a swamp can be so alluring and almost dream-like. I have wonderful memories of visiting this magical picturesque oasis in the middle of a busy world. The peacefulness is almost hard to explain unless you’re there.

Jersey Shore

January 22, 2024 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

This picture was taken on an unusually warm May day. As you know, May can be a fickle month in New Jersey, where one day it is warm and next it is very chilly. On this day, it was close to 90, which was very unusual. But I took advantage of it by capturing many beach and boardwalk images. This picture shows the coaster and wooden pier alongside a lone man with a knapsack walking the beach. In my mind, he seemed homeless, as if his knapsack held his possessions and clothes. I have no idea what was in his mind, but the scene left me with a lonely feeling.

Red Roses and Oranges

November 12, 2020 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I purchases a new macro lens and decided to take some macro shots of oranges and red roses. It is so beautiful to see a rose with water droplets close up. Red roses are the most beautiful flower in my estimation.

Phinizy Swamp 2017

December 31, 2017 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I met my friend Pat the other day at Phinizy Swamp. She came with her hubby and her grandson, Gabriel. I didn’t think there would be any new pictures to take, since I have been there numerous times, but there is always a new take on a picture. I found myself taking pictures of things I hadn’t done before, or maybe the same thing, but using a different angle to create something original. It’s very nice to visit the same place a few times during the year to get a different perspective.

Phinizy Swamp 2015

August 16, 2015 by Marilyn Botta Leave a Comment

I recently went over to Phinizy Swamp to shoot some photos and could not find any ducks or wildlife in the water. As you can see from these images, there is not much water this time of the year. The abundant swamps are usually teaming with fowl but apparently the fauna has taken over. Even still, I got these lovely shots, but I would’ve liked to have seen some of the animals too.
